Benefits of our other systems

Cost

Gabions can be a very cost effective method of grade changes and erosion protection depending on the height of the proposed structure and site restrictions.

Cost

An EvoCrib wall can be installed for less than other retaining systems depending on the ground parameters and the height of wall required.

Flexibility

Gabions are also by nature a very flexible product and therefore can take large differential settlements without catastrophic failure.

Aesthetic

The natural timber finish of the EvoCrib is far softer than an equivalent reinforced concrete wall.

What are Gabions?

Gabions have been around for centuries and the modern name is derived from gabbione, an old Italian word for “big cage”. These cages are typically filled with rock and the weight of the enclosed rock allows design of a retaining structure based on mass gravity engineering principles. The cages were originally wicker but now are generally made from galvanised, pvc coated or stainless steel wire. They are typically used for retaining walls, erosion protection, building cladding, free standing “screen” walls and architectural furniture.
Gabion type structures were used to protect the banks of the river Nile thousands of years ago. In the intervening years gabions have undergone an evolution from reed based woven products to cylindrical wickerwork units used for military fortifications through to modern day steel products which are used for engineering and architectural works.

What are EvoCribs?

Timber crib walls are a cellular mass gravity earth retaining system. One of the oldest gravity wall systems they work on the engineering principle that the mass of the installed system allows it to counteract the forces generated by earth pressure, water pressure and surcharge loading. The system utilises modular components in order to form a cellular structure which can retain heights up to 10 meters. They are quick to build and can be used for retention, as a facing for sheet piles, concrete piles, soil nailed/reinforced earth applications or as a sound barrier.
EvoGeo are the licensed distributors for the EvoCrib system in Ireland. This timber crib system comprises a range of purpose designed interlocking timber components ensuring a cost effective form of construction as well as providing sustainable, environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing retaining solutions. The stress graded timber components are European sourced from (FSC) certified forests which is the gold standard in sustainable forestry management.
